    aura received her undergraduate training in speech-language pathology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and attended graduate school at the University of Alabama. She practiced as a speech-language pathologist in the rehabilitation setting at Trinity Medical Center prior to opening her private practice, Communication and Reading Therapies, in 2001. Laura trained in multisensory reading assessment and instruction at the Chrysalis Academy in Atlanta, GA., becoming an Associate in the Academy of Orton Gillingham Practitioners in 2003. She has also completed coursework for a doctoral degree in education at Samford University. She has Associate level certification in the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and additional training in the Lindamood-Bell and Wilson Language reading programs. An active literacy advocate, Laura served as Treasurer for the Alabama chapter of the International Dyslexia Association from 2005-2007. In 2013, she co-presented on “The Assessment of Functional Reading and Writing Skills” at the Speech and Hearing Association of Alabama annual conference. In May 2014, Laura was named Clinic Director in the Speech-Language Pathology Department at Samford University. In 2017, she was certified by the International Dyslexia Association as a Dyslexia Practitioner. She maintains an active presence in her private practice, Communication and Reading Therapies.
